Notes to You :: 2009
December 8, 2009
To the curious among you,
Does life go on while the party is on hold ? Yes. Yes dear reader of computer screens, apparently it does.
Though it retreats into a state where all is set on planning the next chapter.
Or does the next chapter plan itself?
Enough of these ramblings... Did you enjoy the Styx 2009 Can't Stop Rockin' spectacular ?
I'll take that as a yes.
Are you ready for more ? Do you want to go faster ? Have you got insurance ?
Please do not feel obliged to answer these questions, but simply stay tuned and we'll stay cookin'.
Delectable treats of all shapes and flavors for even the most demanding of musical palettes.
( I'm really selling it here ).
For example: December 22 and 23 at the Glenn Gould Theatre in Toronto (birthplace of No Kilt Tonight )
I'll be lighting up the traditional Christmas jacket and playing with my pal from Glasgow ( birthplace of many a fine Scot), John McDermott.
Then, New Years Eve on Global TV from the Tropic Of Canada, the rock legends STYX shall perform at Niagara Falls. (BYOS... bring your own skates ) .
As for next year... I'm sworn to secrecy at this point, but all will be revealed.
Yes dear internet-loper. All Will Be Revealed.
Ominous... down right Spiritus !
October 29th...
in the North Charleston Coliseum, is the date when the rockin' that can't be stopped tour... ( aptly named: "Can't Stop Rockin' ") continues on with your entertainment needs in mind. And for the following month, the men of Styx -and their pals- will pass through many a state of the union delivering our address to the faithful. It is our wish, of course, that YOU dear website-visitor be among the flock to rock .
Not to knock Woodstock; but our Rock has less talk and more sock in stock to lock a croc with ears like Spock... ( I'm getting sleepy ).
I'm sure you get the point, if there is one.
It is with the greatest of vigor that we embark on this journey, so please accept these words as my earnest invitation and hope that this adventure includes you.
Styxman Del-Spinno- Piano esq.

Hello Strangers,
I just realized that I haven't posted a note here since May, but I have been checking your comments and thank you for all your kind words. The Styx touring mega-monster keeps marauding ever onward because we are having too much fun to stop. Not to mention rocking around the clock as we were instructed to do by that ancient classic. Who am I to argue with that and why would I ? I hope our paths and rocking needs cross in the not too distant future and that you may sample for yourselves some of what I'm babbling on about. All the best, Gowan

The Styx "Can't Stop Rockin' " tour is underway in a big way all across the USA. Last night was Phoenix ( where we rose triumphant ) .
Tonight is Las Vegas ( insert your own gambling joke here... ).
I recommend you come see this Styx-er-bonanza-roo for yourself. I hope we are coming to a town near you. If not, may I be so bold as to suggest that you come to a town near us ? Better yet: how about a town in which we are actually playing. That would surely be the best of both worlds, and plant a smile squarely on both of our kissers. May the lights catch you from your good side. Cheers, Gowan

Our show at the CMIA's could not have been any better. The new Gowan band opened the show with two songs back to back - Strange Animal and A Criminal Mind- and received a standing ovation from the gathering, ( which included Gene Simmons, whose KISS make-up I could barely detect ). I went on to host the rest of the evening and came away very glad for our whole involvement . Hopefully in the near future I'll have a couple of video clips to share. L Gowan

Hello Fine-folks,
We're putting the finishing touches on our songs for the Canadian Music Industry Awards this Thursday March 12, at the Royal York in Toronto. I'll be debuting our new Gowan solo band ( which includes two original members from 1985 ).
I'm actually getting a little tingle of excitement, which is so unlike myself. I'm looking forward to hearing Burton Cummings as well. I have often mentioned that the first concert I ever attended was "The Guess Who " in Toronto, when I was 14 years old, so sharing the stage with one of my teenage idols is something that resonates deeply within... he better play Albert Flasher, is all I'm gonna say !
If any of you recall JD Roberts from his Muchmusic days in the 1980's, you'll realize that he has been the CBS news anchor and of course, is now in that same position at CNN. He is now " John Roberts ", ( what's up with these 80's folks changing their names ? ) and he will be feted at this award show for his strong contribution to the Canadian music industry way back when.
I'm looking forward to seeing him again as well, though he has made it out to a few Styx shows and been kind enough to indulge my requests to keep me up to date on current affairs with what I refer to as "A Personal News Cast ", (reading the news to one person ). This should be a fun evening. Gowan

Bonjour,
It has been several weeks since I last sent out a few words, so here are a few words. We ( Styx ) have been playing quite a bit in the first two months of '09. At present we are in the studio in Los Angeles recording a top secret project soon to be released to a world of eager believers in the coming months... so don't tell anyone till I give you the signal. Meanwhile, you may have noticed that I managed to unearth a video of the " No Kilt Tonight " live recording from back in 1996. "Guerrilla Soldier" can be seen, if you choose to do so, upon the opening of this very website. What a big piano that was ! Pianoforte-Grande. Next week I will be back in Toronto to host the Canadian Music Awards and at that show I'll also be reviving a couple of Gowan standards from the repertoire. Full band. I'll let you know how it goes after we've gone there.
Till then...
Keep watching the spies, L Gowan

Happy New To You and You,
Where has this year gone ? Our New Years Eve " western variety " in Phoenix merely three weeks ago, was a great start.
In just a few days it will be the Chinese New Year. Hello to all you oxen out there. The year of the Ox will be a year that Rox. We're ready to Styx-ify the planet for another round. Are you ready? Are you hungry? Do you sell firecrackers ?
So many questions but luckily the year has only begun. Illinois, Indiana and Michigan are coming up this week and I'm determined to have my driveway shoveled before showtime. Keep watching the plows... Gowan
