Dear Lawrence,

How are you? It was so wonderful to see you at 4 shows in a little over a week's time, in Virginia Beach, Charlotte, Atlanta, and Raleigh. Thank you so much for coming back to Raleigh after the "mini-tornado", which seemed very "maxi" to me as well, after nearly being blown away in the car while trying to get into the venue!! It was scary. You actually did blow me away with your stellar self in each of those cities - I've never seen you look or perform any better, and it is amazing how you held up through the intense heat!!

I missed being down in front with you very much. As you've heard, the Def Leppard fan club got most of the front seating for the tour, so, not wanting to support the scalpers, I got ROCKED from just a few rows back. Thanks so much for acknowledging me out there, that made it really special!! I would have tried to get up there to say hi, but the security in these outdoor amphitheatres are such Blue Meanies.

I have always enjoyed the lads from Sheffield, but you are still, and will always be the very best there is. My Moonlight Desires are still haunting me though, 'cos it has been a long, hot summer without Lady and Suite Madame Blue, among many others. And, I just can't wait for the next Midnight Ride.

I hope you enjoy the rest of the tour out west, and I look forward to seeing you again soon...

With Love And Support Always,
Janet

I recently celebrated my 41st birthday with friends at my house. We sat down listening to some of your old stuff from the 80s. In the course of the evening, wine and sage smudging, we realized that you were one of the few "pagan-friendly" artists of that time period. The chat was so refreshing and empowering. I just wanted to thank you for that. In some way, you and your artwork were very much a part of a beautiful night.

Hi Lawrence,
My husband and I are huge fans of Styx and now you! You bring so much to a group, that was already awesome. Not only musically, (we love A Criminal Mind) but your voice blends so well with Tommy's. I thought it would be impossible to replace Dennis DeYoung. I am happy to say, I was terribly wrong. Your energy onstage is much appreciated, as well as your sense of humor. Your talent is incredible, both as a musician and a singer and a performer! We caught you guys at the very beginning of this years tour in Kansas City, (we held up the sign that asked you to take our picture, and you did. Thanks!) I hope there are many more DVD's in the future. They are the next best thing to seeing you guys live. "One with Everything" is by far the best DVD out on the market, and we have tons of them from different artist. Please keep rockin' us! Kathy

Well, if this is as close to talking to you as I am gonna get (so far anyway) I am gonna give it a go with hopes of you reading my entry.

I have been a fan since the start of your career. I am now in my mid 30's and never have lost the dream if meeting u someday. My childhood was nothing but Gowan. The first time seeing u live was in the basement of U of Guelph. Luckly, the next time u played at the University we made it all the way to an auditorium! Hell'ya we have seen the light. I was there ridiculously early...well at least everyone else thought so. haha I had a shirt made that said Gowan's #1 on the front and fan on the back. Nobody seemed to get it but me...again, o well. I loved it. Watched another amazing show right from the front lines. Anyhoo, I have a girlfriend who was the girl that always seemed to get what I wanted b4 me if I even got (whatever it may be) at all. During the concert she started to get too hot and eventuly passed out. The security took her to the back to get her sorted. After the concert was over we found her. Well, doesn't she just inform me that she met u behind the stage. U sat and talked to her and made sure she was ok. Didn't my we little 15 year old heart break. I cried all the next day. Coudn't believe it happed again. Needless to say I survived for another day, so that in JR High I could make my Air Band debut as Gowan. I performed Jet white. Not sure if u remeber, but I had my sister make me a shirt that u used to wear. It was black and grey. Black shirt with a grey box center and a strip of grey sewn on the diagonal in the centre. I of course did NOT forget my red G earing that my dad cut out with his jigsaw. I had the Gowan doo including the red sprayed on the bangs. I even have a picture to prove this.

boy this is getting long....U still awake?

Jump to a few months ago. I live in Kitchener and u were here on our local radio station doing an interview. I am listening to the station and here that a girl has come into the station too meet ya. Loser Olivia....why the hell didn't I think of that. I rush to work (boooo work) Call the station to tell u my wee (ok maybe not sooo wee)story of pure love and devotion to you. lol I call again, and again and again. WAAAAA I didn't get threw. I am not at all kidding when I tell u, all the old feeling's of the day Allison met u and I didn't came rushing back. Last night I was watching old videos I recorded as a kid finding an old interview with u and Denise Donlen ( ooo the 80's hair on her) Criminal Mind is a wonderfull haunting song that I still can not seem to get enought of. I decided there and then I was gonna make this, now huge entry in your guestbook. Needing u to know that I exist and that I am now and will alwyas be (in my humble opinion) Gowan's #1.....fan

Greetings from the United States Air Force. I'm Jackie, I'm 26, and I'm an Officer in the USAF. I was looking forward to seeing your show in Oklahoma City on September 5th (with my friend Renee, another Officer). We're stationed at Tinker AFB. However, duty calls. She's going to Korea for a few weeks and I'm headed to Washington for Survival School. I'll be out in the woods behaving like a "strange animal" if you will, and then get thrown into a mock POW camp, where I won't be treated very "ladylike". Needless to say, I'd much rather be at your show (had front row tickets for the first time in my life) then behaving like MacGyver in a National Forest. But all is not lost. Renee and I going to attempt to meet up in Auburn, WA on September 26th, after our commitments have been met. If we can score some tickets to the show, we'll see you there. I have a strange need to hear Suite Madame Blue right now. In any case, rock the hell out of the folks in Oklahoma (they need it :)), wish we could have been there. Thanks for the show you did in Waukegan, IL last year (the place where I skidded to a stop entering this planet), and I look forward to a wonderful evening of rock in Washington (hopefully) on the 26th. BTW, I'm groovin' to "Guerilla Soldier" and "Soul's Road" right now. Also, as we say in the Air Force, thanks for all you do. And a Happy Psychic Sunday to ya... I looked it up, It's supposedly a legit holiday. :)

Cheers,
JD

Hi Gowan! I live in St.Marys Ontario and I'm 13 years old

I am a huge fan. I have been a fan since I heard your music for the first time when I first became a Jon Anderson fan. About a year ago I bought a CD called in Elven Lands. It was based on the writing of J.R.R. Tolkein [ he is my favorite author]. It featured jon on it and I soon became a fan of him and Yes. I soon heard Moonlight Desires and was blown away. That I think is your best song. Then I got Strange Animal and have been a fan ever since. I love your music and your lyrics. My favorite songs besides Moonlight Desires are Strange Animal, Walking on Air, City of The Angles and All The Lovers in the world. I'm so glad such a talented man is a Canadain like myslef. And my parents have seen you live in London Ontario. You are amazing and one of the greatest music minds EVER. The only project I didn't like was the Hip Hop cover of Criminal Mind [ love the origanal version though].

I also am overjoyed that your a member of Styx. I am a very big fan of Prog rock and Hard Rock. Some other bands I like are Led Zeppelin, Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Demons and Wizards, Blind Gaurdian, Deep Purple and AC/DC. But I listted most of the prog rock first.

Just wanted to let you know that you rock and have another fan.
Luke Dickey
PS: I was wondering where I could buy sheet music of your amazing songs for piano.
Bye [ you rock].

Hi Lawrence,
Well first of all i'm a big Styx fan. Second I must really be out of the loop of hearing Styx lately because I did not realize there was a new singer :) until I saw "I am the Walarus" video here on aol. I must say you did a great job on the video. Hope to hear more from you guys. Wish you would come to Roanoke, Va sometime. Last time I saw the group it was 98-00 when the new drummer Todd started and the band toured with Journey. It was in NJ in Camden and met Tommy (who gave me a guitar pick which i still have), and saw my favorite James, and spoke to Dennis Deyoung briefly. Well I hope you guys have a great tour this summer. bye for now, michelle

Mr. Gowan,
I remember seeing you the first time in Buffalo NY at the Trafalmadore Cafe as a winner of a ticket from the radio station. I had heat sickness two days earlier and was afraid I would miss the show. I even promised cookies to the DJ's as a thank you for the ticket. I think they felt sorry for me because I missed calling by 1 caller to win, so they played Criminal Mind for me and said if I could get to the station before 5, they'd give me a ticket. Somehow I got it and made the show. Weird as I was at 19, I went by myself with my silly little camera and took some great shots of your performance. I espcially loved Imagine. Weird how one can remember something so vividly as that night over twenty years ago. I still have my picture of the two of us, all the other photos and my autograph on the Stange Animal LP sleeve. You probably won't recall that I asked to use the lyrics at the start of a book I was writing at the time. Every night I had my clock radio on for an hour to fall asleep to and when I first heard Criminal Mind. It woke me up out of the beginnings of sleep because it gave something real to my main evil character. I had to find out the owner of the song and when I could see him. Suddenly I was not only a fan, but had my charachter described exactly as I had thought him up. Then I was amazed to see the video. I lived in Lewiston NY at the time but got some Canadian TV and used to watch videos like any other 19 year old. Wow. Impressive. I gotta meet this guy. Attractive too, but that's besides the point. You said, "We'll see." when I asked if I could borrow the lyrics for the front page quote as many writers do. And I did finish the story and the character still remains, but not published unfortunately. I saw you again in Toronto, my friend and I took the train from Niagara to see you and I gave a letter to one of your band members as he was walking around. I guess he gave it to you. I am sure you get tons of that crap, but anyway, I just wanted to say, hey. I am now in Texas and found Criminal Mind on MySpace. Weird how this evening without Astros baseball has turned into such a take back to the 80's. I hadn't realized even you were with Styx and I see you are coming to Spring, TX in August. I'll try and make it. Wow, anyway, I have followed you some over the years, but these southerners just don't have any taste in northern music. Not even Rush! Love them too, of course. Neil actually wrote me back a post card once. How cool was that. But I actually got to meet you. Better! Anyway, thanks for sticking it out and still being there. You still look great, sound great and have a ton of energy, although I miss the blue and red hair. Loved the video of Moonlight Desires too. Well, I'll keep checking up on you and you keep doing what you do best. All the best my friend.

Hi Larry,
I found a picture the other day of you and I when we met at Lulu's in Kitchener Ontario during the SoloLive days.....what great days they were and what an amazing venue. Since then, I've had the pleasure of seeing you and Styx 5 times (4 of them at Rama).

I moved to Vancouver BC 2 years ago and really missed my annual trek to see you and the guys so scheduled my vacation east this year so that I could catch the show. It was the first time I wasn't stage-side but even though, I have to say it was the best show yet (and a great way to celebrate my birthday)!! I got chills when I saw you pick up a guitar again, and when you broke into "Strange Animal" it was like old times!! Thanks so much for that - I've missed seeing you perform the old stuff.

Counting down the days till GM Place!!!!

Much love,
Susan

Hi Lawrence,

"Little Face" here to say I'm full of anticipation and excitement because I'm packing my bag to head south to Birmingham, AL for Wednesday's show. Do you know I haven't been to one of your shows since last September 15th? That didn't used to be a long time between shows before you joined, now it's an eternity. I'll be 3rd row but will do my best to work my way up front. You know I will! Let me tell you, my friend, the value of this show. 2007 has been one of the hardest years of my life, thus far. In the first month alone I was very ill TWICE, and my 92 year old mother was in the hospital for her heart and I am her sole caregiver. My sister in another state has been going through an ongoing crisis that is giving us all a nervous breakdown. And that's just MY side of the family. My husband's mother has been in and out of the psychiatric ward since Valentine's Day and tried to kill herself on Mother's Day morning (she was home-not for long obviously). So this show is going to be one major stress reliever. If you see this short little lady, your bestest fan, woopin' and hollerin' more than anyone else, you'll know why! And if we get the chance to speak, by chance, I could sure use a hug.

My Kentucky hugs to you as always,
Pattie "Little Face"

I saw you a few months back in concert, but before the concert you were playing on the ice in front on the bank I work at in Oklahoma - I wanted so much to see and touch your hands... but respected your privacy - I watched your hands on the monitors to see them up close - I love your music - I have touched the hands of several of the best pianists - Greg Page, Mark York and of course, the late great Anthony Burger - I feel closer to the music somehow by touching the hands that have the talent God gives out to a select few - Keep making beautiful music with Tommy - my favorite singer....Am seeing you again in Oklahoma in September - hope to get close then too....

A very warm "Hello" to you, Mr. G! This message comes a little late, but I did make my yearly trek up to Rama once again to see you and the boys! Had terrific seats, too, eighth row! However, that was still too far away and so I dragged my shy sister right up to the front of the stage towards the end. Sitting in a chair simply does not compare to the excitement experienced when standing amongst the true fans and watching you from just inches away! Also, I was absolutely thrilled to see you perform "I am a walrus" live! Just finished watching the video of this song which reminded me of the psychedelic existence of many during my younger years, an era considered wild and free spirited, but tame in comparison as to what goes on nowadays in many ways. Fabulous job by all of you! And so I'll wait another year!...Sigh!

Love always

Dear Lawrence,
I stumbled upon this site the other day and I'm so pleased you're doing well, and with one of my favorite old bands! Years ago I returned to my first musical love - classical - and lost track of the rock scene about 1994. Listening to your old albums the past few days I recall why I was so charmed by your music. You are a very unique and talented song writer and an excellent musician. Obviously, you made the right career choice, but with an ARCT in classical performance, do you miss classical? We met years ago in Saskatoon and I still remember your sweet smile and warm hug.

An old fan wishing you good health and safe travels,

Norma

Hey Larry,

Just a quick note from an old fan who jumped on the Gowan bandwagon (pun intended) after catching a Rhinegold performance at The Knob Hill Hotel in 1980 (almost got distracted by the topless biker chick riding the mechanical bull between your sets --- I didn't know tattoos could move like that!). Then there were three shows one weekend at the Talbot Inn in London, a small group of us all sitting around with you talking stage magic and playing Asteroids during the band's breaks. Your covers of "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "The Logical Song" still bring a smile to my face.

I caught a show at The Forum in Toronto, the last Styx visit to Calgary and am eagerly awaiting the your return to Cowtown this September.

Somewhere I have a photo or two of the show at the Talbot Inn and I'll send them along when I find them.

Have a great tour.
Cheers,

Tim Reynolds.

Hello All, Just got in from the fabulous show tonight up in Orillia. The boys were hot, hot, hot!!! Sir Lawrence of Gowan was in usual form, having the time of his life. It's great when our hometown boy comes back to roost. This was the first time Casino Rama allowed the fans to line the stage pre-concert. It was definately a party atmosphere. Sure do hope the same applies to tomorrow's show cause I'll be front and centre for that one as well. If there are still people out there who have not managed to get themselves to a styx/gowan extravaganza ..................... what are you waiting for?! Get a movin!!

Hi Lawrence, I read your bio from your website link, off of the Styx website. You missed an important milestone which was playing hockey on Barnes Cres. in Scarborough Ontario. Yeah I know that brings back really old memories. My name is Steve Webb I lived at number 8. Right beside Keith White. Remember that gang? Keith, Scott Keates, Tom Tuma, the Nagys. You did play street hockey with us a few times but you were pretty wrapped up with your music which seems to have paid off (huge understatement). I loved your Criminal Mind song the first time I heard it. Great job. I absolutely freaked when I heard you joind Styx. Unreal. Fantastic. How the heck did that happen? I have been a Styx fan since Equinox and I was blown away when I heard the news. I will be buying tickets tomorrow for your gig with Def Leppard in Calgary ( my home now). I would love to be able to say a quick 'Hi' backstage since it's been about 30 years! Is this remotely possible?

Hi Lawrence!
I was in the CYO chorus and I have to say that it completely changed my life. I wake up every morning to the live concert using my iPod player, and it gets me going. You are the first rock band that I have ever known, and I love how alot of people in my school know about the band and enjoy the music as well. Just me and Jake's (another choruster)impact has made an impact. The concert is still vivid in my mind, and hopefully yours too. As we approach the one year anniversary of the concert, I plan to spend that night reliving the concert as much as I can. My brother and I are complete Styx addicts now, and we talk about you all the time. You are his favorite band member, but I like you all the same. I want to thank you and the band for making a group of teenagers feel that for one night, they could live their musical dreams and influence other people; and by doing so they could be one step closer to whatever they hoped for. My brother and I have started a band with me as the lead singer and him on the lead guitar, and we already have memorized most of your songs by heart. Our favorites are Fooling Yourself, Criminal Mind, and Too Much Time on My Hands. You'll see that you guys are really important to me if you go to my website www.mckmeg2.piczo.com. The best part about you and your music is that you write songs that have a good message and are influential unlike many bands that you see today. Everyone thinks that my experience on May 25, 2006 was amazing, and I am standing here today living my dreams with more confidence and joy than before, thanks to you. Thanks for being an amazing role model to a teenager with big dreams!

Dear Lawrence,

Welcome back to our home continent, and I trust you arrived safely. Thank you for the posting. It was nice to hear that you enjoyed going back to your beginnings, visited your Auntie, and had great gigs as well.
I am happy for you that you have been able to go back to Scotland many times; I have been longing to go there as my ancestry is Celtic as well, from both Scotland and Ireland. And, I knew that Mr. Shaw is one of us, both from his name and that his hair looks just like mine does when I don't do anything to it. A dead giveaway. And, there are many of us in our region of the US, since the Celts settled here. I feel the connection way down deep in my DNA, and I'm sure it would be emotional to go there.
I remember going to the Highland Games up in the NC mountains when I was younger..they resemble what I have seen of the Scottish Highlands in photos. And, I enjoyed watching the men in their kilts compete in the athletic events, tossing that long pole, etc. And, hearing the wonderful bagpipes.
Maybe the next time Styx goes to the UK, I can satisfy both my longing to go to my roots, and my longing to be rocked to the core by my favorite band.
Looking forward to seeing you soon. By the way, I am a Wallace, am I correct that you are a MacDonald?

Take Care,

Good afternoon Mr. Gowan,

Recently I came across the master edits of 'Strange Animal' and 'Criminal Mind' (reel to reel) and also the master video for Strange Animal. I was wondering if you know of any fans that would be interested in aquiring these tapes or if you yourself are interested in adding these items to your personal collection.

You can contact me VIA a friends email as I am not online all that often. melosh@hotmail.

Thank you....

hope you are having a good time in England!

Hi again Sir Gowan, your english maiden here from previous post. our fleeting meeting (don't you just love poetry?!) at Nottingham was a tad sad (i think i have the knack now), but you made up for the short short set with the fantastic Sheffield gig last night. was front centre in my Miss America vest, singing my heart out! I asked JY to tell you, but wanted to say thanks for aiming the Styx towel at a Styx fan. i enjoyed our coo coo cachooing moment too.

had a brilliant night and met some lovely people who let me get up front just for your set (think i may have been next to Laura, but didn't get the two girls' names). both loved the set and i gave them your website address. there will now be more of us awaiting you Sir Gowan. come back soon.

ps thanks for the latest LG notes entry. keep them coming. they sooo make me laugh.

Hi Lawrence and I guess, by now, welcome home. Hope you enjoyed the overseas dates while we all went through separation syndrome. lol It's now been nearly 8 months since my last show and I fear it may be a few more. The feedback from the band's most devoted fans all across the country is being very frustrated and disappointed at pre-sales for summer tour tickets today. One person only found as close as row S and that was going through the Def Leppard fan club. Another was told there were no more tickets and they haven't even gone officially on sale yet. The synopsis is $96 is a lot for a ticket when you guys are doing an abbreviated set and many come just to see you all. I will probably pick one show and go for it, if even through e-bay. But the cost is turning people away from doing multiple shows as in the past-and that's not coming from me but from other diehards.

Missing you and having serious withdrawal pangs.
Kentucky hugs,

Hi Lawrence,

I have a confession to make: I'm addicted to your LG Notes! I always get a good laugh from them and I can't wait for the next one. My only problem? It's impossible for me to translate them in French for my friend Caroline who doesn't speak English and who is also a fan of yours. The way you write is so....LG!!! Never mind, don't change a thing; I'll find a way to share your deep thoughts and particular sens of humour with her!

Another thing. You go to Montreal in July with Styx. Why not Quebec City??? Styx used to come to the Colisee everytime they were in Quebec. Why not this time? And if my memory still serves me well (I'll be 40 soon, so you never know!), on one particular tour, they came to Quebec City but NOT Montreal. That makes me sad, but I'll forgive you...if you promise me to come next time! Do we have a deal here? ;-)

Take care, be good, keep rocking!

Nathalie xxx

PS How many times a week do you go to the gym? You look soooo good! Those muscles, yummmmmmmy!!! ;-)

Hi Lawrence, I just wanted to say hello since I have just come across your web-site. I havn't seen the band in awhile but I hear you guys are doing great. You probably won't remember me but I met you a few years ago at several shows in South Carlina, Georgia and Texas. (I live in Dallas) What might spark your memory is at the end of one of the shows in SC, you kicked a beach ball right into my face!! I could tell by the look on your face that you were as suprised as I was and we both laughed. Don't worry, it didn't hurt that bad!! Anyway, I recovered just fine and everytime I hear one of your songs, I think of that day and it gives me a little laugh for the day. I hope you are well and good luck with touring this year. I hope to be able to see your guys when you come to Dallas again. Take Care, Christy Black

Hi Lawrence (Sir Gowan). Such a shame about the Nottingham gig being cut short due to technical difficulties. But i have to say you drew some real appreciation from the crowd around us who had never seen Styx, and you, before. Thanks for blowing their minds! And for making the sit-downers understand why us Styx fans had to stand out like little sore thumbs around the arena, singing our heads off and raising our hands towards you all as our gods! (a bit steep i know but all i could come up with at this hour in the morning!). Even though you only had a 3 song set, you forced them to show they do have legs. we were so proud to be Styx fans. You rocked the house. See you soon. Debs %26 Ian

Subject: Isn't it a great thing to find out that you've inspired someone?

Dear Larry, uhhh, Lawrence, hmmmmm, Gowan,

Before I get started going in the direction I planned to, I have what I think (?) is a polite, and valid, question. What name do you actually prefer to be called by? You've thoroughly confused me...which isn't an easy thing to do, so from that standpoint, at least you've got me curious about something...and since I'm a curious creature by nature, I just HAD to ask! (Some who know me...much better than I'd prefer actually...might even say I'm a curious creature who is curious?) Kinda like..."I know that you know that I know that you know" :) Except in your case, I DON'T know...and man I hate not knowing things! (Okay, so now I do know this... I'll probably never find out, since I said that!)

ANYhoo...back on track, heading in the direction I meant to go (I'm also a great tangent leaper...can leap tall ones in a single bound! Probably hold the world's record for it...IF there IS a record for it!) Dang...there I went again, tangent leaping about tangent leaping! (Who's on First? I Don't Know. THIRD BASE!) REALLY...seriously now, no more Lori'isms to clog up your guestbook! I want to tell you a little story...about how much you've inspired someone and gave them a truly precious gift that I want to thank you so much for!

Here's how it went:

NOTE: Now, I'm not "blowin' me own horn" here at the start of said story...just stating facts and only because they have a huge bearing on the story I want to tell you. So here goes...

While my day job is something else altogether (Breeder AKC Labradors, Pro Trainer %26 Behaviorist, and am retired early from work with law enforcement K9...different and physically painful story there!)...I'm a singer, lyric soprano on down to baritone...yup got that range-thang goin on. Did tons of musicals, summerstock, and the like. Studied opera formally, and belted blues tunes, jammed on jazz...love to scat sing...and rocked until I made my own ears bleed...that is, when my mentors and/or coaches weren't listening!) I write a bit...it ain't Grammy Material, but it's mine! Also a cellist for ummm...a lot of years...lol...and I'm proud to say I've never lost 1st chair in any orchestra I've played in...I also recently found out that in the area of the US I grew up in (NOT JERSEY...NO WAY!) was one of the youngest cellists to audition for and be accepted to play in a Pro Symphony when I was a Freshman WAAAAAAY back in High School. I also "play" play various other musical instruments/ and am artsy %26 craftsy like crazy in general. Sketch, draw, paint, playdoh, name it I love it!

I've even been known to "tickle the ol' ivories" once in a great while, especially when I want to crash to earth real hard re: my talents/gifts! LOL Mom always said I'd regret not applying myself more to the piano...the older I get, the more I realize just how much Mom has learned! (Truthfully, at the time I was big into the stage/song thing, so I only learned what I had to in order to ace Theory!) Oh, and I also have that weird and whacked out thang "they" call perfect pitch. (Who are "they"? Any clue? I ask everyone that!) OOPS..no no no more tangent leaping!

Enter stage right...or left...whatever....

Lori's hubby Tom, an Intellectual Property Attorney, who has an IQ that is so totally off the charts it cannot be accurately scored, who suddenly decided a few years ago that he wanted to learn to play the piano. He's enamored of what I'm capable of musically, always bragging me up to people to the point of true embarrassment for me, and he has wished for so long that he could just "borrow" some of my talent once in awhile. He also likes the idea of playing guitar, but the piano is what calls to him. Unfortunately there's been a slight problem with that, and I bet you know what it is. I'm no dummy myself...test pretty high up on the ol' IQ thang...good thing, too...because the man keeps me on my intellectual toes constantly without meaning to, but it's made it harder on him that I got both, and he didn't. Not jealous or angry, just incredibly dispirited at times.

Remember the stories of how Einstein never was able to tie his shoes, and that he got lost walking home from work? (which was, as I recall, a block away!) Well...my Hubby, the Chemical Engineer, and Intellectual Property Attorney? The piano to him = what Einstein's shoelaces were to Einstein. And OH how that frustrated Hubby, especially since everything BUT that one thing he wanted most, always comes to him so easily.

Of course when I suggested lessons..."NO WAY" was my answer. (What IS it with men and refusing to ask for directions, lessons, even reading a bloody map? I REALLY want to understand that!) So, I got him a good keyboard, not professional/performance level, but somewhere between student and pro...and I made sure it came WITH headphones. I mean, I had to stack the deck in my favor just a tad or I knew I'd go stark ravers in the first fifteen minutes!

Well, that went over GREAT! He loved it, and he loved doing it "His Way", so after he plunked around on it for awhile, I got him to start working seriously...scales scales scales, fingering, etc. He busted his behind trying to learn, but kept out-thinking himself...distilling it down to mathematics, which fascinated him utterly from an intellectual standpoint (I buy him a keyboard and get stuck taking Theory afterall! Joke's on me there!), but that same fascination, as you can guess, really set him back progress-wise. So, my next try...DVD's of ALL the "greats" throughout history. (Horowitz blew him away! LOL! I loved watching him watching Horowitz!) I wanted him to see that regardless of old school vs. new school and how playing and teaching, etc., have evolved through the decades, these people all had one thing in common...they FELT what they were playing; whether they saw the instrument as an extension of themselves, or as an adversary to be conquered, they FELT. He "got it"...what I was trying to relate to him...but still, something was lacking.

Then, one fine day last year, he came home from work (didn't get lost either, AND his shoes were tied! LOL) and I happened to have your "Gowan" DVD in, along with the Styx CYO DVD in the player. (By the by, as impressive as it is to hear you channel John Lennon doing Walrus, I always wonder if you practiced him until you got him, or if it just does come to you naturally, given your range, and having studied in his native country, it's another of those things I'll probably never have an answer to...but it's a treat to listen to!) Back to Hubby walking in...talk about fortuitous TIMING...he walked in right as you were beginning "A Criminal Mind". (PROPS and KUDOS from me...I've loved it from the first!) Well, he heard the intro bars, dropped his briefcase and his jaw, as he stood about 4 ft from the television, simply riveted! I'd never seen him like that about ANY song, or artist/band/etc. and we're talking about a guy who truly loves music...we have such a huge and varied collection that we added on a Music Room just to store it all in, when we added the Library we'd originally planned.

He played the whole DVD over and over again, and would play Criminal Mind 2-3 times everytime it came up...all the while he was completely absorbed...listening to you play and sing, and watching you; just entranced by the feeling you show so effortlessly as you play. As the old saying goes, it is truly written all over your face! When I finally pried him away long enough to watch the CYO DVD, (Keep in mind that he's always liked Styx, starting "back in the day", me too...except for well...you know...) HE WAS TRULY BLOWN AWAY BY YOUR PERFORMANCES on every DVD I could show him, both as a single or with Styx that we have, and that would be all of them actually.

He'd found what he'd been missing through you, due not only to your talent (And really, what can I say that hasn't already been said? You're the whole package, you are "One With Everything", if you'll pardon the pun!) but also due to your obvious LOVE for what you do, your love of music in general, and because he sees you FEEL. Me, I'm patiently (not too patient mind you, but trying to be!) waiting to see you Live At Carnegie Hall...Horowitz, Shmorowitz...all I ask is that you be really careful if you decide to leap off the top of the Grand, okay? :) Take care of those knees...you only get two! ;)

Now? My Hubby Tom is playing SONGS! (and quite a few are Gowan and Styx/Gowan covers!) No, he's not "great", no he didn't suddenly discover he's a wickedly talented virtuoso! He found out something better than that for him: That he CAN make music, and that is ALL that matters. He has discovered the ART, and he has found the JOY.

It was YOU who gave him the key to unlock those things in his mind, and I cannot say thank you enough...thank you is not even adequate. He and I have been inseperable for 17 wonderful years, and to see him so happy...from the bottom of my heart, thank you for sharing your talent with everyone...and especially with my husband. It has changed his life, and through his, mine as well.

With Gratitude and Wishes For Great and Wondrous Things In Your Future,

Lori

hello there folks from runcorn in cheshire, england.
i went to see thin lizzy, styx and deep purple at the manchester arena last night (sun 22nd April 2007) thin lizzy were great, they did a great job considering there is now no phil lynott, deep purple, who i've now seen 4 times including the famous gig at knebworth in 1985 were absolutely out of this world as usual.
but i've never seen styx even though i bought my first styx album 'pieces of eight' when it first came out all of those years ago.i must admit i've listened to 'big band theory' and thought styx had lost there way a bit,but when i saw them last night WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW ,mainly due to lawrence gowan all of those teenage years of mine came flooding back with all of those note perfect harmonies.
he sounds much like dennis deyoung so all of the hits they sing sound great but his energy was never ending,i especially liked the keyboard that he spins around.
as long as lawrence says with the band styx have lost nothing and i can't wait until they come back to england.
thanks very much for the hightlight of the night.
graham.

Hi Larry,

I made the trek across five states to see Mr. Shaw in Buffalo last night. The other Gowan Gamut Girls were in attendance--Carol, Joan, and Lori and Norma-Lee (wee Norma-Lee), who have the wonderful Gowan's Strange Animals site on My Space (I seem to be having GowanWorld on You Tube, and it's just the tip of the iceburg..hope you don't mind). A GREAT time was had by all, and you were missed, but spoken of very fondly. And, Tommy still does that part in "Too Much Time On My Hands", singing "with A Criminal Mind" even when you are not there!! We all liked that.

I'm sure you enjoyed the game; glad your team won. Mark Silver said to tell you hello.

I hope you have a wonderful time playing in the land of your birth. And, please come home safely, so we may see much more of you here. I'll be there for you.

Oh Mr Gowan, how i love the unrestricted ramblings of your blog, and the insight, although far from subtle, of your inner workings. that you are primed for an onslaught, in a rock and roll sense, of England's fair pastures and faraway shores, is so magical for me. for i am a fair maiden of england, and i have in my purse two golden passes to be in your presence just a few weeks from now. firstly in the city of Manchester, far my home but closer than Anaheim where i saw ye last, and secondly in my home town of Nottingham, where Robin still rides in ghostly form and Marion wanders lonely and lost for her love. if i had a trusty steed, and Robin's purse of gold stolen from our Sheriff, then I would travel even further afield, although the taskmaster in the office will not afford me any more time off after i fled to the new world last month on a four day Styx-fest. I too saw the pixies in Vegas. They were everywhere.
Well, must be off now. The amber ale is gone from my glass and i need to refill to recharge this lucid thought. we await you Sir Gowan. we await you. xx

Once again it seems they have overlooked styx the best out there. I think we just need to start our own hall of fame and make styx the only band in it maybe then the band and larry will get the recognition they deserve so much.

Hi Larry,

I am thrilled to bits because I finally figured out how to download the video I've taken of you at recent shows, from my digital camera, and then upload it onto my You Tube account. Your performances of Suite Madame Blue, and Lady, are so particularly OUTSTANDING (and close up), that I would like for you to check these out. In fact, you gave the most awesome rock performance I have ever seen on Suite Madame Blue. Just log on to You Tube, and plug in gowangirl in the search, and all 28 of mine will come right up--with more to come--including some vintage clips I have of you on there.
I think these new videos prove that you just keep getting better and better..like fine wine!! Let me know what you think about them sometime. Enjoy your break!!

With Love,

I just watched the Styx CYO dvd, again. I finally figured out why the Beethoven, you play it for your mom. All those piano lessons and your in a rock and roll band. I do have one question -- why don't you and Ricky button your cuffs? Don't they get in your way?

All the fun aside, your great. Keep Rockin' and be safe in your travels.

Dear Larry,

I hope you had a great run of gigs out west, and have had a safe trip home. When I got home from the Vegas shows, I was pleased that my 2 Gowan Live dvd replacement copies had come in the mail (due to my earlier submission of a blood sample). Just watched the Victory and City Of The Angels section, and it is Gowan-tastic!! Absolutely the best ever now that everything is in sync.
I wasn't even complaining about my original copies, but to have them fixed is wonderful!! Thank you so much for taking care of this, and thank you so much for everything you do as well. You are awesomely the best!! And, you were so wonderful in Las Vegas, from start to finish, even with the watermelons.

With Love,

Subject: GREAT SHOW, But one request.....

Hey we just saw you tonight at the Chumash Casino and it was an amazing show! My husband loves Styx and in fact saw you guys in concert in 1978 in Phx, AZ. I was not as big a fan but I liked some of your songs (but NOT Mr. Roboto!). We were both BLOWN AWAY at your AMAZING piano playing!!! HOW DID YOU LEARN TO PLAY BACKWARDS??? That is so cool! We took a picture for our 14 year old son to see that, he's a piano player and he was very inspired by your abilities! You are a very talented player and you also have great showmanship, by that I mean you are very entertaining and have a natural flair for the stage. You definately made the show for me! My husband had one request, though: he would like to hear Crystal Ball in full length. My request: That you throw some of those guitar picks to the people on the side- you only threw them to the MIDDLE of the crowd! How about those of us on the sides??? THANKS!

Dear Lawrence,

I had the pride and privilege of flying in to see the two wonderful performances you gave Friday and Saturday nights at the Luxor. You were so much fun, and I love being down in front to support you. I particularly loved the big finish to your headstand, and thanks for doing your high kick near the end of Come Sail Away on YOUR end of the stage..right in front of me and those who admire you the most--I hope you make a good habit of doing that!! I missed Suite Madame Blue..but looking forward to hearing you do that one again--you are PERFECT on it.

Now back home, I'm working on my review of the shows for the next Gamut. I'll leave out the part about your dive head first into the melon patch, and your prolonged blushing embarrassment and other antics immediately following. I've never seen a man grinning from ear to ear for so long. Well, I HAVE, but never mind.

It was very gallant of you to apologize, but you have unconditional love here. So, what happens in Vegas...stays in Vegas!!!

Hugs...And Another Kiss,

Janet, Your Gowan Gamut Girl in the USA

Bonjour

So there was I in jolly old England, which is a good thing as that is where I live, back in 2005, when I stumbled upon a newspaper in my house. Normally I don't read the British press as I am quite capable of making my own stories up thank you, when suddenly I see an advert for Styx touring Britain. Now, I was no Styx fan but my missus was, so having picked her up from the floor, (we honestly didn't know Styx still existed), an internet search began and tickets for Nottingham rock city were purchased with me going along purely for support (emotionally and physically). English radio only really aired 'Babe' and 'Don't Let It End' both of which were my reasons for not being a Styx fan, so I wasn't exactly jumping for joy at the thought of this gig but lordy lordy did I get a shock. My word Styx were stunning - and I knew far more songs than I thought. However, and now we are getting to it Mr G, It became obvious whilst watching you just what my problem with Styx was, I didn't like Dennis De Young, it's not personal and I am not attacking him or questioning his talent, he just wasn't my thing. You on the other hand have (in my humble opinion), created a unity in that band that I found seriously lacking. So, back from the gig in 2005 and straight on to Ebay to get two tickets for Bristol (300 miles away), for another stunning show. And then you were gone, until, tour dates this year supporting Deep Purple, only one problem, we can't stand Deep Purple so we get on the internet and in an effort to not spend £70 ($140 USD) on two tickets, we spend approx $1500 dollars on two flights to LA, car hire, 4 night accomodation and tickets to Pechange CA, Luxor, Las Vegas and HOB Anaheim. We arrived back yesterday jet lagged and broke. We have never done anything so mad in our lives but the lunacy doesn't stop there! now we are back on Ebay looking for tickets to any Deep Purple show so that we can spend the aforementioned £70 on a show we thought wasn't worth seeing. The only saving grace in this whole story of financial desruction is that Styx is so worth it, and thanks to you LG I have had a lot of fun seeing you all. I'm broke but happy. I hope JY still has the T shirt that we gave him on stage at Anaheim. See you in England and who knows where else. Thanks LG, your talent is appreciated.

Just wanted to drop a note that I saw Styx, with Larry, of course, at The House Of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC 2 years ago. What a show ! I was very skeptical of the band since Dennis DeYoung had left, but I was blown away by you Larry ! I am a keyboard player myself, and your technical expertise on the pianos were phenomonal ! You nailed those parts, and vocally you were great also ! Thank God you came along to keep the band going ! Of course, the rest of the band rocked , as usual ! Tommy was phenomonal that night also ! I was going into a deep depression that Styx was washed up without a stand out piano player, and lead vocalist. Well, I was saved from depreesion by you, Larry ! I can't wait until you guys come back to the Carolinas again. Please come back soon !!

Thanks Mike Draper

Hello Mr. Gowan

I know you're likely very busy criss-crossing the country but I wanted to send a short note on behalf of my 12-year-old son. He's a typical hockey-playing Canadian kid who also plays piano (for the past 3 years). Although we're not familiar with all your songs nor have we seen you in concert, your songs seem to inspire my youngster. Of course, as with all youngsters, it's tough to get him to practice. But we use you as an example of what he can do if he puts his mind to it. We hope you don't mind. Any words of inspiration you might have for him would be a blessing.

In any case, if you're ever in Halifax or Dartmouth for a show, we'd like to be able to go to the sound check and meet you since Jarrett can't get into many of the shows after 9 pm!

Good luck making music,
Cheers,
Jeff Norrie, Dartmouth, NS

Hello Lawrence,

I hope you are well and enjoying 2007 so far. I was very disappointed to miss the New Years Eve show in my home state of Kentucky. Used to live in Lexington. But as Sarah posted, I had a bad case of flu. I got over that and my 92 year old Mom went in the hospital. That was followed by me getting a stomach virus. So 2007 has not been great for me so far.

But I digress.....you and I (and I guess many millions of people) have something important in common. Our lives were never to be the same after this night 43 years ago. We sat as children watching the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time. You had career dreams after that and I just wanted to be Mrs. Paul McCartney! lol It's a fun thought to think of 7 year old you watching the same thing on TV as 11 year old me. A night that truly changed the world and altered history. It's still changing lives. David Lettermen does his show from the Ed Sullivan Theater now and just marked the evening with a band called The Fab Faux and they performed "I Am The Walrus"!!

Also, 4 years ago yesterday I met you the first time in Louisville (lull-vul), KY. We didn't speak, just got a picture together. I was too paralyzed in awe of you. I'm still in awe of you but have brought myself to converse with you since----a little. I really do have more to offer intellectually than I've demonstrated, I promise, haha. 2006 was a great year for me seeing you 4 times. Not a lot by some standards but a lot for me and the most I've seen you in any one year so far. Still I hope to top that this year but no plans yet. Have to maintain being a "Gowhead" don't I? (I've heard that's what you call us.)

It was an unforgettable year seeing you with the orchestra in your solo Kitchener show (worth the 11 hour drive) and the symphony in Cleveland with Styx. I'm so grateful for those valuable memories and the CD of Cleveland's show is a great keepsake. It's funny because I was in front of the kids in the orchestra the first half of the show and in front of you the second half (thanks to friends). So you can see me on the DVD in front of the director on "Just Be" and in front of you during your piano solo in the middle of "Fooling Yourself".

I'd love to make it to StyxFest in May but I don't think that will happen. Hubby %26 I have our 32nd anniversary on the 24th and for some reason he just doesn't want to spend it in Canada at StyxFest!!! I just don't understand!!! haha

Take care my friend, see you by summer for sure and as always
Kentucky hugs,
Pattie "Little Face"

I was one of the fortunate concert attendies that Lawrence took a self polarid picture and threw it to ME from the stage and it landed right on my BIG BEAUTIFUL BREAST and to think I want a breast reduction;not any more. This was my first time seeing them perform live but the experince was GREAT! I also liked the way that the whole band hyped the crowd and put their all into performing;I see now its what they do,it's in the HEART of STYX!

My only request, please come back to Michigan very, very soon. I'm jealous of the Styx fans who are lucky enough to travel often to see you. My domestic engineering duties don't allow me the flexablity to get away. I'm happy with a once a year fix, even though it's not enough.

What an incredible show! You are certainly a gifted musician and performer. An added "thank you" for taking a few minutes of your time to sign my t-shirt after the concert (back in the alley behind the bus, lol)! I never would have thought that at 46 I could get so overly excited about something so simple. I must confess, my friend and I followed your bus to Sooner Legends Hotel, however, we decided that the extent of our adventure should stop right there. I will never know what it's like to be in the spotlight, have strangers asking for my autograph, or experience the constant barrage of fans. Yet I'm pretty sure that at some point you must relish what ever privacy you can find while on the road. Therefore, we felt obligated to offer some respect. I'll say it again, you guys are awesome! Hi Lawrence,
My "lady" is Karen Dowling aka:(carrotstyx). I don't know if you remember her. She lost 93 pounds after you inspired her at a STYX concert in Watertown NY. You met her again at Turning Stone Casino in NY. She cherishes her before and after pictures with the band and is your biggest fan!!! She is in the fan club and and talks about going to the Lincoln City, Oregon STYXFEST that she attended with her fan club friends and presented you all with lei's on Tommy's birthday. She also flew to the Atlanta show on Halloween when she gave you back your triple chest piece,LOL! Her favorite time with you was in NY City, at your hotel, when you were kind enough to sign her license plates and chat with her about your music. Anyway, she turns 50 on Feb.10th and has immigrated to Canada. I am throwing her a party on her 50th birthday at a local hotel in Carleton Place, Ontario to celebrate her birthday and immigration. I know she would be thrilled beyond belief if you could attend. I know it's a lot to ask but also know it wouldn't be at all possible if I didn't invite you.

Thanks for your consideration and all the happiness you have given her!

Hello Lawrence:
I have seen you in so many different venues over the years and each time, you are the only artist who helps me to feel that Beatle Magic (in particular John Lennon). I am a well seasoned Beatles Fan and yes I know I'm dating myself by saying so, but I have always felt that you also pocess some kind of Musical Geneous. Keep up the good work. When you decide to venture out on your own once again as you did last February in Kitchener, I will for sure be right by your side. I was actually wishing that I had taken my mom to that concert. She is in her 80's and likes clasical music very much. She would have enjoyed your performance.

I had the pleasure of watching you perform once at Jeff Healey's Christmas concert. Standing in line that night, we (my husband and I) met Styx fans who were interested in learning more about you. It was early in your Styx career. Anyway, I described myself as a Lawrence Gowan Fan and of course rose you to a level in their minds to where I knew they would go away never forgetting Lawrence Gowan. You definitely rose to the occasion and thus the x-over of Lawrence Gowan fans and Styx fans had begun. It has been an amazing ride so far.

Your patience with the music industry will pay off for you one day as I can feel it that you are actually just beginning and nowhere even near the end. Hats off to Larry I say. Have a very successful 2007. Styx are great and have become much greater thanx to you. I look forward to being at your next Rama Performance. MG

Hello Mr.Gowan

I just finished watching MTV Cribs where you were featured. I was so happy to see that you are well and haven't lost any of your “spunk ". I immediately went to the basement and uncovered my old Gowan albums. Its unbelievable how great "moonlight desires" and "criminal mind" still sound in 2007. Your music has definitely stood the test of time.

Thank you for the music and the memories,
Peter Teixeira

Subject: seeing Gowan in a different way now

I was just thinking about Gowan when I was on YouTube. I checked out some of his older performances. I really have to say that Moonlight desires is my favorite song from Gowan, and video. I used to listen to him in late 80's and early 90's. Then times started changing, and music took many turns. Now Gowan is playing with Styx. I feel kind of strange at how he went with this band. I would love to see him on his own again. I would like him to perform like in the moonlight desires video, lucid and free. There is such a powerful presence to him when he does this song. I would really like to see him performing very powerful songs. I feel that this passion and true song writing and composing talent is getting hidden away. I would like to see him start something very light and fresh. Just setting free.

Thanks so much for those beautiful songs Gowan.
You are an Angel.

Hello from Kingston . . . saw you in Branson (with Styx) a few years back, and after I held up a made in Canada hoodie, you threw this old girl a guitar pick. Made my day! Have followed and loved your music since the early days - my husband met you at CFNY in (then) Brampton way back. I have a question: do you think you would you ever be interested in composing a song to support Breast Cancer Survivor Dragon boat teams (ala "I Run for Life" - Melissa Etheridge)? Dragon boating is pretty big in Canada and worldwide and growing in the US - it would be neat to have the sport and the courageous women involved recognized.

Hello Leapin' Larry,

Or maybe your name should be 'lectric Larry? haha Well I heard that the best part of the show at the Royal Alex on Dec 23 was the duets with John McDee and yourself. You even topped his rather, uh, COLOURFUL new multi tartan jacket (OY!) with your "light show". How I wish I had been there to see that! Sigh The word I got is that you and the tall Scotty Boy need to do a concert together or two. Hmmmm........I wouldn't mind at all! You could be the maxi and mini Scots! Knowing himself, I would bet he would have a multi tartan jacket run up in just your size. It would be a sight to see and I have some dark sunglasses that would suit the occasion AND protect my eyes. : ) Just kidding. But it would be super if you two did some kind of full concert sometime AND recorded it. That Boy seems to be able to rock although he hides it in his "Celtic Perry Como" disguise most of the time.

Happy New Year to you and your's. Make sure you don't drink and light the jacket up at the same time. Could be a rather shocking experience. Hope you got your Wii from Santa.

Safe travels.
With tongue in check and hopefully, not a foot in mouth.
Barbara in NYC

WHen are you heading here for a solo show????

...fabulous shows in Merrillville and Waukegan, Lawrence (even though "Doctor" was so truly missed!) What a wonderful way to end the year! Your head-stand expertise is quite impressive. Teach me, sometime? ; ) I thought of you at breakfast yesterday - when I enjoyed some delicious wholegrain pancakes with genunine maple syrup that Kim O. sent me. I brushed extra long, afterward. Thanks for doing what you do. You're the best! Happy New Year. XO
ps - I (finally) watched the CYO DVD. AMAZING! I had goosebumps watching and reliving that wonderful evening.

Dearest Larry,
I hope you enjoyed your gig last night in Lexington...I had planned to go, but didn't make it after all. I also hope you got your Christmas messages from some of us on the 23rd, and that you have seen the current issue of The Gamut. It was a real labor of love, and I dearly hope that you are pleased with the result, especially since I had never written anything like that before. Would like to hear your comments, hopefully when I see you real soon. I know that 2007 will be full of joy and will be the best year ever..and I'm looking forward to lots more of your wonderful performances!!
Take Care,

Janet, Your Gowan Gamut Girl in the USA

The Rupp show last night was awesome at least during your part cause i am not much of a coutry fan. We actually had row 14 for the concert but my sister andi were able to bribe a couple in the front row to switch us sits during yalls part so we were the two girls at the very end of the front row by Tommy. It was really bad when i saw Chuck before you guys announced him i get really excited and had to pee really bad so i ended up tinkling on myself but that didnt get in my way of enjoying the concert. That was my 6 concert in about 21 months, it just sucks that i wont be able to see you guys again until probably summer. My sister and i are going to make a sign for next one saying that we just need Rickys and Chucks polaroid to finish our collection, cause we have one of everyine else and two of you which i am not complaining but i like to have full collections. It was great ending the year with yall and i wouldnt have it any other way. Also in case the message didnt get to you. Pattie(Little face) is sorry she couldnt make it but she had the flu

LG,

Thanks for another outstanding performance at the Pageant but be careful about standing on your head. My kids and I appreciate the time you took to visit with us. Signing their shirts and mugging for the photo was the highlight of the evening! My daughter is still buzzing about the polaroid you gave her during the show.

Your the greatest......

Lawrence, I went to the show last night in Merrillville, IN and was blown away by your vocals, especially on what would have been Dennis' parts. It was the 1st time in years that I've been able to catch a Styx show so the new line up was a little surprising. I wasn't however disappointed. You have an awesome voice and stage performance and do the band much justice. I thank them for bringing you aboard and look so forward to seeing more shows w/you. I hope you guys come back to the Star Plaza soon.

Someday I want to become a rock star, and I hope someday I'll get to meet you. You're my inspiration!

Thank you so much for making that night so awesome.

Hi Larry! Extra tickets are coming out of the woodwork for tonight's show..and I STILL cant go, due to working and deer :(
Someone from my village (Henry IL) is driving up there tonight, and I told her to take special note of you and say hi. Looks like I'm going to miss every show scheduled so far, possibly even Rama- but I'm hopeful. I need to talk to your booking people!
We imported some special 50 degree weather just for you. Take care!

Hello Lawrence...

Have been a huge fan for as long as I can remember. Was just curious to know if you have any more upcoming "solo" performances coming up. I was at your Kitchener performance last Feb and LOVED it and wish you were able to do more of those. I know that with your schedule with Styx you are on busy lad , but was just wondering if you were planning on any more solo tours in the near future...and if so, would any be by chance here int Ottawa Ontario??
Thanks! Merry Christmas and have Super New Year!!!

Greetings %26 holidays wishes from a (finally!) snowy Montreal. We miss you (and everyone in Styx for that matter). However, if I have to pack up the mate and haul butt off to Casina Rama to see you that may be our holiday this year. I remember standing in line at the 2nd Cup on Crescent St. (ages ago it seems) when someone said, oh my god it's Gowan, and there you were indeed. We miss seeing you around town. Canada and especially Montreal feel very propriatorial about you and Styx and we'd love to see you here. It would be great to see a real genuine guitars (and of course) piano balls to the wall rock show (none of this Place des Arts orchestral nonsense stuff for me thank you very much). Please come back. Make sure to give Tommy and the boys all the best.

Hello Leapin' Larry,

Belated birthday wishes; hey, better late than never : ). Wishing you a good two concerts on the 23rd with the very hairy, fellow Scot, John McDee. Wish I could be there. So will Annie be playing Yoko to your Lennon once again? haha Too funny. You are one fireball. I do hope you will be having some solo concerts soon and that they will be close enough for me to get there. Loved your show last February in Kitchener. You are one dynamic performer.

God bless and have a wonderful holiday! Safe travels.

Dearest Larry,
I hope you are well and enjoyed your gigs in Vegas. It was recently Thanksgiving here in the US, and I was thinking of all the many blessings in my life, and one of those is certainly you, your talents and your music. Don't laugh too hard, but I found myself being grateful to your mother for bringing you into the world! I hope you had the very happiest of birthdays. You do know that 50 is the new 30,right? I still say you don't look a day over 29...
Thank you again for the wonderful shows you gave the weekend before your birthday--at Penn's Peak, Atlantic City, and Baltimore, and you made them extra special for me. It is so much fun being down front with you! You bring me so much joy! And, it was great to get that big hug in Atlanta at Chastain Park in September, and thanks for taking the pic of the two of us together.
I am turning some other deprived Americans on to your solo stuff as well. You are still making a tremendous impact with Strange Animal, and everything you recorded right up through The Good Catches Up. That one is very inspirational to many! Your music really stands the test of time.
I'm glad we have you touring here in the US now (It's OUR turn!) and that I can see you quite often...almost makes up for the years we didn't even know you. The Baltimore show on Nov 18th was my 10th this year (Sorry, I'll try to do better next year!!).
I know that you have been through ups and downs, and changes in
your career, but it has all worked out pretty well, hasn't it? I know it's all you ever wanted to do. Reinventing yourself, you persevered. I admire you so much.
And, I'm grateful for your being such a positive influence on me with all your talents, intelligence, wit, humour, and showmanship. Thank you for being and giving you. You are like fine wine...you just keep getting better and better!!
Take care, dear...have a wonderful holiday season filled with joy.

Love Always,
Janet--Your Gowan Gamut Girl in America
