Last
night, Calgary rocked!!! Styx finally came to town after 20 years
to entertain those of us who remember this great band. And entertain
us they did, the fans were on their feet dancing to every tune and
singing along every word - they haven't forgotten. We heard old
songs, new songs and one of Gowan's songs, "A Criminal Mind"
in a great musical arrangement and harmony - the crowd went nuts
as Gowan played the first few notes and they recognized what song
was coming. My personal favourites are "A Crystal Ball"
- a spellbounding reflective songs; and "Brave New World",
this tune just catches me every time I hear it. Gowan also did a
superb job in his own singing style of "Lady" and "Grand
Illusion". Compared to Quebec City, I found the majority of
the Calgary audience was of my generation, but it was great seeing
the younger people there too in the front row, rocking and having
just as much fun. (left image from Calgary Herald)
I'm
being biased now but I cannot help but say that Gowan brings a lot
of energy and fun to this group of guys who really do enjoy themselves
up there on stage. They were thrilled at the Calgary audience (they
told me) and how much you enjoyed the show. They'll be back for
sure, sooner than 20 years.
My only disappointment was that there was no Calgary press present
and hence not a word printed in the local papers the next day about
this great show, I was the only 'official' photographer so I hope
you enjoyed the photos. Look out Edmonton and Kelowna, you're in
for a treat. |
